Leslie Clark: Home
"Singer Songwriter Leslie Clark's style holds influences from the Beatles to Enya to Bobby McFerrin to Astrid Gilberto. This crazy salad comes together in a distinctive and indelible style. Clark's songs are well crafted, and singable in a way that's reminiscent of Gershwin and Porter, but they offer the content of the folk balladeers of the 60's. Her voice has amazing range and expressiveness and her overdub vocals (harmonies) are some of the best you'll hear. She veers all over the map with her background vocals, creating clusters of harmonies that seem unrelated to other clusters of harmonies but that snap together in the final mix to create soundscapes you'd have thought were carefully crafted by an arranger over days; she creates them spontaneously in the studio. Clark took up guitar at the age of 8 and it shows in her playing which is breezy and effortless. But she is a singer at heart and her playing serves as a frame for her voice."
